GAA Blitz

Third Class took part in a GAA Blitz in Slashers in May. It was a very enjoyable day and a great chance for all of the children to get a feel for Gaelic!

Hurling Coaching

The hurling development officer,  Séamus Hughes has been visiting our school for the past few weeks to give hurling lessons to fourth class. They are really enjoying the experience and we are very impressed with the children's hurling skills. We are looking forward to a blitz on June 18th.

Sports Day for 2nd 3rd and 4th class

The boys and girls from Second, Third and Fourth class had lots of fun taking part in our sports day activities in the sunshine last week. We would like to thank the class teachers and a special thank you to 6th class who helped out on the day, they did a super job! We hope fifth and sixth class have lots of fun at the Garda Sports Day and we look forward to seeing the junior classes enjoying their sports day soon. The GAA Club-School Link

Over the last 6 weeks our 3rd Classes took part in the Club-School link programme. This initiative aims to promote GAA within schools with an emphasis on the coaching of fundamental skills and games-based activities. Local coach with the Clonguish GAA club, Seimie Hagan, and Mr. Burke delivered a total of twenty sessions over the six week period. North Leinster Finals

Our girl’s school soccer team travelled to MDL Park, Trim to represent Longford schools on Thursday April 26th. The Girls played 3 games. First we played Tullyallen and secured a 3-1 win. The winning streak continued as they beat St. Etchen’s, Kinnegad 3-0. Emma Shannon scored a screamer of a goal from tip. The girls went on to play St. Stephen’s N.S. in their final game. Schoolboy Division 1 League Final

On Wednesday 14th March the footballers of Scoil Mhuire, Newtownforbes regained the Division 1 League title after a lapse of 17 years. Killoe provided the opposition in a repeat of the 2016 decider but thankfully the outcome was different on this occasion. This was in fact the 2017 league final as the match was originally scheduled for the 9th December but had to be postponed due to the bad weather. Indoor Hurling – League Winners

Congratulations to our indoor hurling team who won their league final on 6th March. The boys beat Glen NS by 5 goals to 2. The team were unbeaten throughout the whole competition and were worthy winners on the evening. All the boys played their part during the competition and produced many fine displays. Cumann na mBunscol – Mixed

The mixed team are playing in the Division 1 League again this year. We won our first game against Colmcille in Aughnacliffe and were defeated by Killoe. On Thursday the 13th of October, the team played Colehill and came away with a win. They will now play in the Division 1 'A' Final against Killoe. We are very proud of the team and wish the players and all involved the best of luck.
