Local Geography

trainstation

We are situated in the heart of the Central Plain. Ireland’s longest river The Shannon flows gently through Castleforbes Estate. Other rivers in the parish include The Fallon, The Camlin and The Rynn river. The highest point in the parish is the rock of Clonellan. A beautiful fort is located in the townland of Lismore.

The main railway line between Dublin and Sligo passes through the parish and the train used to stop in Newtownforbes at one time. The station closed down in the late 50’s but the station house is still occupied.
